Through this community workshop series, join us and each other for DIY visual art, music, and toy re-design collaborations. Improvise beats, screen-print posters, or remix action figures as you make and share with the Mobile Music Box (Aquil Charlton), Mobile Street Art Cart (William Estrada), and FrankenToyMobile (Andrés Lemus-Spont and Marya Spont-Lemus). Ages 4 and up.
This event will include Guest Artists Alisha Webster & Simone Reynolds
Alisha began drawing trees in her spare time during an After School Matters program led by Marya Spont-Lemus herself, which later landed her a job at the Smart Museum as a docent. Alisha has always been drawn to art as a whole and to nature. She found beauty and peace in painting and of course sketching trees in her downtime. For this workshop, called "Treescape," she would like to share her skills and bring upon peace while sketching and decoration trees!!!!
In "Treescape," learn how to draw trees and use natural materials around you to create textures—with imagination, observation, and inspiration. You will learn how to make textures *without* materials as well, by drawing different types of lines and patterns.
Simone G. Reynolds is a singer/songwriter, poet, and theatre artist. Her work is inspired by the meaning of home, and how we can embrace and question it in our daily lives.
Simone will guide participants in creating their own poetry zine using their 5 senses! This activity is designed to empower participants to be the architects of their narratives in the midst of their childhood.
